August 2023 Update

Reopening Again on Friday!

After being closed for the last couple of weeks we are reopening this Friday! We decided to take a much-needed break from the ice cream shop.

During this break, we dedicated most of our time to tending our farm. We harvested fruits and vegetables, tended to our animals, and completed all the necessary tasks that come with farm life. We even harvested 1,000 pounds of early ginger-gold apples from just three of our apple trees, which we took over to Etta Place Cider. And in the coming weeks, we will have many more apples ready for harvest. Additionally, we took a bunch of apricots over to Etta Place.

Joseph & A.C. at Mesa Verde National Park

In addition to our daily farm routine, we also took a quick trip down to Mesa Verde National Park and Four Corners. The trip was unforgettable, and it gave us a chance to explore and experience new things. If you have not yet been to Mesa Verde, we highly recommend it. The park is famous for its rich history, incredible views, and unique architecture. We were fascinated by the ancient Puebloan cliff dwellings and the cultural significance they represent.

Overall, our break was a great opportunity for us to recharge our batteries and spend some quality time together. We look forward to being back at the store for the last two months of this season!

Fall Hours & Garden Produce

In addition to reopening this Friday, we are going to start our fall hours.

Monday - Thursday : CLOSED
Friday - Sunday : 1:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Are you looking for farm-fresh produce? Look no further! Our gardens are plentiful and our fall produce is ripening every day. While we won't be at the Wayne County Farmers’ Market every Saturday, you can still visit our shop Friday through Sunday to pick up fresh produce and eggs. Don't forget to follow us on Instagram and Facebook for updates on what's available at the shop!

Farm Update

As mentioned above, our gardens are lush and full of herbs, flowers, and produce! We expanded our garden spaces this spring, and are happy with what we have been able to grow. We look forward to future years as we continue to use regenerative agriculture practices in tending to the soil, microbiology, and diversity in our gardens.

A view of our gardens on our farm. August 2023.

Last week, as we were returning home from Mesa Verde, we noticed that the Fremont River, flowing through Capitol Reef National Park, was extremely high. We immediately wondered if there had been heavy rain near our home and hoped things hadn't flooded like it did several weeks ago. As we got closer to home, we saw evidence of large amounts of rain, and upon arriving, we saw lots of flood damage everywhere in the town of Bicknell. Our farm sustained some damage, primarily in the chicken coop and alpaca corral, which are located in the lowest spots on the property. All of the water flowed there and caused some damage, including the loss of one of our chickens. Also, the road in front of our house now has an 18-inch gulch alongside it left by the fierce water runoff! Fortunately, our orchard and garden spaces didn't receive much damage. Although it could have been worse, we are grateful that the damage on the farm was not too extensive.

Annular Solar Eclipse

Did you know that there is an annular solar eclipse on Saturday, October 14, 2023, and we are going to be right in the middle of it! Capitol Reef National Park, and Torrey, Utah, are going to be some of the best places in the world to watch the eclipse!

Come join us for a fun evening filled with delicious food, ice cream, singing, dancing, and overall fun! Then, come back the next morning for some delicious Shooke Coffee and breakfast at The Wild Rabbit Café, and join us for the viewing of the eclipse. Partial eclipse will begin at 9:09 AM, annular eclipse at 10:27 AM, and will last 4 minutes 29 seconds.

We have also created some unique eclipse swag that you will only be able to get from The135! In just a few days you will be able to preorder your swag for pickup at the eclipse!
